Officials giddy after Centertown School papers signed The mood was positively festive Friday morning as County Executive Kenneth Rogers, school board chairperson Dr. Deborah Watlington, Director of Schools Dr. Jerry Hale and school system legal counsel Michael Galligan gathered at the County Administration Building to formally co-sign an agreement between the county and the school board to begin construction of Centertown School. There was even some good-natured banter making light of the controversy between county government and the school system over the past two months, but no sign at all any ill-will remained. Hale said he was gratified another step in the Centertown School project was complete with the school system that much closer to actually breaking ground. "I'm very pleased, very excited," Hale said. "I think this is a red-letter day for Centertown and Warren County, and I just look forward to future endeavors and enjoying the good will of the people at this Christmas season as we move forward in this collaborative venture." Longtime Centertown principal Janie Moore, who was also on hand, talked a bit about what this means to the students and citizens of Centertown. "Centertown School has had a long and impressive history as an institution that can boast of educating young people who have gone on to become good, hard-working citizens, including attorneys, physicians and business-people," Moore said. "The community hopes that with this new school building we will be able to continue that tradition. We hope the entire county will be as proud of this structure as we will be. We want to thank the school board, Dr. Hale, County Executive Kenneth Rogers and county commissioners who have worked so hard and diligently to bring this structure into existence." Once construction contracts with Mid-State, the low bidder at nearly $7.4 million, are finalized and signed by school board and county representatives there will be an official groundbreaking at the construction site.
